GALLEY DEPARTMENT

Responsible for navigational safety. And secure the maintenance of the ship’s deck.

Deck Department

ENGINE DEPARTMENT A department that operates, maintain and repair the engines and other machinery of the ship.

GALLEY DEPARTMET The important role that food plays onboard a ship, and it lies to this department. They are the one who cook food for all the crews inside the ship.

Responsibilities of crew members in deck department

CAPTAIN Highest responsible officer, acting on behalf of the ship’s owner.

CHIEF OFFICER (c/o)

Head of deck department of the ship and the one who reports directly to the captain.

SECOND OFFICER (2/o) Executive officer designated as the “Navigating Officer” capable for performing vessel and navigational watch duties.

THIRD OFFICER (3/o) The authority to identify and report non-conformities.

BOATSWAIN (Bosun)

He is responsible for the ship’s hull and all its components, including its rigging, anchors, cables, sails, deck maintenance and small boat operations.

ABLE SEAMAN (AB) Perform general maintenance, repair, sanitation and upkeep of material, equipment and areas in the deck department.

Ordinary Seaman Performs variety of duties to preserve painted surfaces of ship and removal of corrosions.

Cadet Assist in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the ship.

Responsibilities of crew members in engine department

CHIEF ENGINEER Responsible for engine room’s efficient operation and the operation of all the mechanical equipment on the ship.

SECOND ENGINEER (2/E) Supervise the daily operations and maintenance of all machinery including the ballast system and firefight equipment onboard.

THIRD ENGINEER (3/E) Responsible for refusing unsafe work and carrying out all work in accordance with established safety standards and work practices.

FOURTH ENGINEER (4/E) Carrying out planned maintenance routine under the supervision of chief or second engineer.

FITTER Responsibility of ensuring the necessary repair work in a ship that is done properly and efficiently.

MOTORMAN Report any undesired events, unsafe practices or near accidents observed to the superior officer/s and attempt to rectify them if possible.

WIPER Cleaning of the engine room and general maintenance of the engine department.

CADET Assist in all engineering related tasks both operational and maintenance.

ELECTRICIAN Responsible for the ship’s navigational lights and other navigational equipment's.

Responsibilities of crew members in galley department

CHIEF COOK Supervise the maintenance and operation of the galley and living and eating quarters of the officers and crew.

MESSMAN Assists the Chief Steward in his cooking duties and serve food on all personnel and guest.

MESSBOY Responsible for proper cleaning and sanitary matters of his working area.
