ELP FINALS The Error in Sentence Writing Lapses  Anything that do not conform with grammar Two kinds:  Oral lapse  Written lapse How does a sentence commit an error?  It becomes an error when you violated the rule in grammar of English language.  We can say that an error is committed when there is no adherence to the rule.  Subject-Verb Agreement Note: the verb depends on the tone of the sentence, not on the singular and plural nouns as considered by many.  Remember this:  Base form- climb  S form- climbs How to correct it?  It is when a person can readily check her work by himself (aware of the committed mistakes). Speaking/ Oral= mistakes Writing= error The Errors in Modification Sentences according to structure Declarative  Facts or truth Interrogative  The purpose is to solicit an answer (confirmatory answer) Imperative  Declaring a command Exclamatory  Manifestation of extreme emotions

Two kinds:  Interjection- Ouch!  Exclamatory sentence- You were meant to be back yesterday! Sentences according to purpose Compound sentence  Connects two independent clauses Complex sentence  One independent clause and one dependent clause Compound-complex sentence  Two or more independent clauses and one or more dependent clauses.  COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS  Connect word in equal footing Example: I love life and I want to live happily. (an example of COMPOUND SENTENCE)  SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS  Dependent clause would now become part of the other clause Example: I love life because of you.  of- preposition  you- object of the preposition (an example of SIMPLE SENTENCE)  because of you is a subordinating conjunction because it gives the reason of loving life or what we call an “adverb of reason.” Example of COMPLEX SENTENCE: I love life [because you make me see how beautiful it is.] independent clause fragment and a dependent clause Example of COMPOUND-COMPLEX SENTENCE: I love life and I want to live happily because you make me see how beautiful it is. Independent clause  I love life  I want to live happily Dependent clause  because you make me see how beautiful it is
