Tetragrammaton

Hermetic Cosmology begins here . . .

The Empireum The One Mind or Monad outside the universe

Empireum

Robert Fludd 1617

9th Heaven

10th Heaven

Robert Fludd 1617

10. Tenth Heaven: The First Cause Ø Issues directly from the Monad or mind of god Ø Creates the “Mind of Nature” (also called “Mind the Maker”) Ø Ultimate cause of all events that itself does not have a cause 9. Ninth Heaven: The First Mover (Primum Mobile) Ø Spiraling emanation of solidified light Ø Carries all lower spheres with it in rotation around Earth Ø Crystallized light source of all rotation and change

8th Heaven

Robert Fludd 1617

8. Eighth Heaven: The Stars Ø Stars fixed on the surface of a single celestial sphere Ø Constellations influence life on Earth through their astrological signatures Ø Against the background of the fixed stars are wandering planetary spirits Ø Each planet regulates a specific archetypal level of consciousness Ø Relative to the filtering action of the Houses of the outer Zodiac.

Planetary Ladder

Robert Fludd 1617

The Planetary Ladder: Transformation of Soul into Spirit 7. Heaven of Saturn: Contraction Ø Dualistic existence bound to time and space Ø Cold condensation of soul at the beginning of creation Ø Return gateway to the stars in the Eighth Heaven 6. Heaven of Jupiter: Expansion Ø Forces stubborn Saturn archetype to transform and grow Ø Expansion and exaltation of spirit or lifeforce Ø Holds to its transcendental origin while materializing Ø Sense of superiority and superficial sociability

5. Heaven of Mars: Aggression Ø Aggressive ego, discipline, laws, and rigor Ø Alchemical attributes of purification and forging changes Ø Checks the expansive and superficial signatures of Jupiter Ø Demands a re-examination of what is real 4. Heaven of the Sun: Stability and Growth Ø Nurturing stable environment for growth Ø Stimulates transcendental awareness of non-duality Ø Establishes balancing or neutralizing force between the masculine spheres above it (Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars) and the feminine spheres below it (Moon, Mercury, and Venus)

3. Heaven of Venus: Beauty and Love Ø Emotions, sensations, beauty, and sexual desire Ø Tempers Mercury’s discipline with the desire to just live life Ø Grounds Sun’s energy and Mercury’s intellect 2. Heaven of Mercury: Mind and Imagination Ø Thought, intellect, mental clarity, inspiration, imagination Ø Constraint to emotional decision making Ø Mental structure and discipline - boundaries of personality Ø Mercurial gift of imagination determines a person’s creativity Ø Balances settled feminine aspects of Moon with reckless romantic impulses of Venus

1. Heaven of the Moon: The Subconscious Mind Ø Reflection and balance in a person or situation Ø Focuses attention on physical form Ø Acknowledges natural cycles of growth and decay Ø Filters reflected light from higher celestial spheres through darkness of subconscious Ø Balancing force between the powers Above and Below Ø Dreams, fantasies, intuition, psychic impressions, and mystical feelings

Model of Alchemical Consciousness

MONAD

One Mind

DYAD

Duality

TRIAD

Three Forces

TETRAD Four Elements

John Dee’s Monad

Characteristics of Monadic Consciousness 1) The experience begins in a state of non-duality and infinite Oneness. 2) It seems to take place in a boundless space of pure warm light. 3) It is “beyond thoughts” or exhibits the inability to have thoughts. 4) There is sense of a whole original self, soul, or a primal state of being. 5) The basic dichotomy of “I” versus “other” is transcended. 6) Just your pure centerless awareness or “default” presence remains. 7) Everything stripped away—no more ego, striving, attachments. 8) There is a sense of eternity with no experience of time. 9) No fear; nothing to fear because it is beyond thoughts. 10) Attainment of complete knowledge or direct gnosis of reality. 11) The feeling is one of infinite satisfaction, bliss, and perfect serenity. 12) In describing the experience, it remains paradoxical and ineffable.
