Questionnaire for SMEs on Corporate Governance

1. The USAID Responsible Investment and Trade Activity The Burma Responsible Investment and Trade Activity is working with a broad range of international and domestic private sector firms and civil society actors to promote civilian ownership of the Myanmar economy by increasing the share held by responsible, accountable, and transparent firms. Through the Activity, USAID will increase trade and private sector investment. To attract and sustain investment and trade, RITA will support firms operating in or entering Myanmar to improve corporate governance, business transparency, and competitiveness. 2. Corporate Governance and Training Corporate governance (“CG”) is a set of practices by which a company is guided and monitored by its owners. Good CG improves business performance, attracts growth financing, and drives sustained growth. A well-governed firm has greater trust among its stakeholders, including investors and customers. A CG training would cover governance core tenets with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It would go beyond theory and provide practical tools and best practices of essential governance. A CG program would cover governance practices at different stages of growth to create value and long-term growth and sustainability.
