As I was working as an intern, I had to be as dynamic as possible as at any point I had got a different task from the role which I had which helped me to gain experience in a variety of roles. 6. Functional Areas: 6.1 Finance: Although related to accounting, the finance function involves planning for, obtaining, and managing a company’s funds. Finance managers plan for both short- and long-term financial capital needs and analyze the impact that borrowing will have on the financial well-being of the business. A company’s finance department answers questions about how funds should be raised (loans vs. stocks), the long-term cost of borrowing funds, and the implications of financing decisions for the long-term health of the business.

6.2 Logistics: Logistics is the collection of processes involved in moving goods internally or from buyer to seller. Logistics managers oversee and control the many complexities involved in that process; in fact, there are a number of certifications for these professionals. Success depends on attention to many details: Routes need to be determined based on expediency, regulatory environments and avoiding obstacles ranging from road repairs to wars and adverse weather conditions. Shipping provider and packaging options must be carefully considered, with costs weighed against factors from weight to recyclability. Fully loaded costs may include factors outside of transportation, such as those that ensure customer satisfaction and the availability of suitable warehousing.

6.3 Human Resource Management (HRM): Human resource management is the organizational function that manages all of the issues related to the people in an organization. That includes but is not limited to compensation, recruitment, and hiring, performance management, organization development, safety, wellness, benefits, employee motivation, communication, policy administration, and training. Human resource management is also a strategic and comprehensive approach to managing people and the workplace culture and

environment. Done well, it enables employees to contribute effectively and productively to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the organization's goals and objectives. The department members provide the knowledge, necessary tools, training, administrative services, coaching, legal and management advice, and talent management oversight that the rest of the organization needs for successful operation.

7. Critical Analysis: Organizational analysis or more commonly known as Industrial analysis is the process of reviewing the development, work environment, personnel and operation of a business. This review is often performed in response to crises but may or may not be carried out as a part of a demonstration project, in the process of taking a program to scale, or in the course of regular operations. Conducting a periodic detailed organizational analysis can be a useful way of management to identify the problems or inefficiencies that have arisen in the organization but have yet to be addressed and develop strategies to overcome and rectify them. Organizational analysis focusses on the structure and design of the organization and how the organization’s systems, capacity and functionality influence outputs. Additional internal and external factors are also accounted for in assessing how to improve the efficiency. Undertaking the organizational analysis is helpful in the organizations long term sustainability. While performing an organizational analysis, many details emerge about the functions and capacity of the organization. All of these details can make pinpointing what is efficient and inefficient difficult. Using theoretical organizational models can help sort out the information and make it easier to draw connections.

8.1 The McKinsey 7S Model: The McKinsey 7S Model emphasizes balancing the seven key aspects of an organization. The seven key aspects of an organization are: • • • •

Strategy Structure System Style

21 | P a g e Presidency university|bengaluru

Sainor Labs Pvt. LTD

• • •

Staff Skills Shared Values

The three element – strategy, structure and systems – are considered “hard” elements, easily identified, described and analysed. The remaining four elements – shared values, staff, skill, and style – are fluid in nature, difficult to describe and are dependent upon the actors (employees) within the organization at any given time. The 7S organizational analysis framework is based on the premise that all seven elements are independent and must be mutually reinforcing in order for an organization to be successful. Changes in a single element can result in misalignment and dysfunction throughout the organization and disrupting its harmony.

The McKinsey 7S Model Representation

8.2 Specialized Area (Supply Chain Management): According to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals1, logistic operators can be defined as, “Logistic operators own trucks to move goods or pick up freights, rail cars and the locomotives to move the freight across long distances on the land. They possess and operate ships or aircrafts to move bulk cargoes across the ocean and also via the air, and also to other continents. Some logistic operators do not possess a fleet of vehicles but act as an intermediary to

provide transportation to clients. All are essential links in the global supply chain that moves the good and freight to provide services to clients.” Morgan Stanley’s report2 (2010) explains the concept of logistics and defines logistics as an integral of the supply chain process. The supply chain processes plan, implements, controls, and executes the effective and efficient flow of materials, storage of items, and the associated information from the point of source to the point of consumption to meet clients’ necessities.

8. SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats): A SWOT analysis is a technique used to determine and define your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats – SWOT. SWOT analyses can be applied to an entire company or organization, or individual projects within a single department. Most commonly, SWOT analyses are used at the organizational level to determine how closely a business is aligned with its growth trajectories and success benchmarks. This mind tool is used by all major companies in the market to asses their marketing strategies, product analysis as well future ventures to discover it’s shortcomings, open opportunities, strengths and weak points.

8.1 Strengths: Strengths are things that your organization does particularly well, or in a way that distinguishes you from your competitors. Think about the advantages your organization has over other organizations. These might be the motivation of your staff, access to certain materials, or a strong set of manufacturing processes.

8.2 Weaknesses: Weaknesses is that element of a SWOT analysis highlights the weak points of a business plan, product or a plan. It is very necessary for a company to know the shortcomings of its venture beforehand as it helps them to prepare for it and in most cases helps to mitigate these shortcomings to avoid loss to the company all together. This element can include organizational challenges like shortage of skilled labour, financial limitations or other external factors which may affect the outcome.

8.3 Opportunities: Opportunities are openings or chances for something positive to happen, but you'll need to claim them for yourself! They usually arise from situations outside your organization, and

23 | P a g e Presidency university|bengaluru

Sainor Labs Pvt. LTD

require an eye to what might happen in the future. They might arise as developments in the market you serve, or in the technology you use. Being able to spot and exploit opportunities can make a huge difference to your organization's ability to compete and take the lead in your market. Think about good opportunities you can spot immediately. These don't need to be game-changers: even small advantages can increase your organization's competitiveness.

9.4 Threats: Threats are the final element of a SWOT analysis and it highlights all the factors which poses a risk towards your company, business plan or your product. This could include things like emerging competitors, changes in regulatory law, financial risks, and virtually everything else that could potentially jeopardize the future of your company or project.
